We are pleased to announce the release of brewers-assistant (www.brewers-assistant.com). Brewers-Assistant is a free homebrew management website that aims to merge the ease of use and interactivity of desktop applications with convenience and distributed nature of web applications. Take a look at the screenshots below for an example of the user interface. Access your recipes instantly from anywhere without losing look and feel of desktop applications.
We invite you to stop by, join the site and look around. Here are some of the features currently supported by the application:
1. Nothing to install - just point your browser to www.brewers-assistant.com and you're ready to go. 2. Full calculations for gravity, ABV, mashing temps, color and many other statistics for your recipe. 3. Interactive calendar showing your upcoming, completed and overdue events. 4. Recipe sharing, search, etc (more powerful search capabilities will be implemented as our recipe base expands) 5. Comprehensive brewlog showing your upcoming events. 6. Easily accessible toolkit on every page for quick calculations. 7. User-friendly user interface with many interactive features 8. Not a trial - completely free of charge 9. And more...
There will be many more updates coming up - first of which will be email alerts for immediate as well as overdue events (this is actually already implemented but in the testing mode right now). Also note that currently only imperial units are supported, but we will add support for metric system if there is demand for it.
NOTE: As stated above this is a heavily user-interface oriented site and requires a modern browser. If you access the site and it looks different than what the pictures below show, most likely you will need to upgrade your browser. Latest versions of Chrome and Firefox are recommended, although IE 8/9 will work OK as well. Also - minimum suggested resolution is 1024 * 768. If your resolution is less than this the site will still work , but you will end up scrolling a lot.
We will post on this forum as new updates become available. In the meanwhile, feel free to join, browse and use the page. And if you have any issues or suggestions please let us know immediately at support@brewers-assistant.com.
Major updates • Email notifications for brew events : Once you start your brew day the program will keep track of all of your upcoming events (fermenter transfers, dry hopping, bottling day) for that particular brewing session. For each event you will receive a notification when one of the following is true: an event is to be completed in a week (this is an early reminder), an event is to be completed tomorrow, or an event is one day overdue • Round to Nearest : Do you really measure 13.86 ounces when you scale a recipe ? If so, you can still continue doing that. But by default recipes will now be scaled to the nearest quarter. So, in the example above this would scale to 13.75. If you still want to have exact scaling then you can go to your "Account" panel and uncheck "Round to Nearest" preference.
Minor updates • When recipe has no changes the "Save" button will be grayed out : Note that any change, such as replacing an ingredient with the exact same ingredient, will be considered change. • Changed "Fermentation and Bottling" to "Fermentation and Carbonation Settings" We just wanted to be more explicit that this is where CO2 is being set. Also styling was slightly changed on CO2 portion to make it stand out from fermentation a bit. • "Complete Event" Dialog : You will now be presented with a confirmation dialog when you click on the "Complete Event" button • Added a few more things to Account panel You can now upload an avatar image (although right now it won't be shown anywhere, other than on the account page), as well as set your email preferences.
If you haven't joined brewers-assistant.com go ahead and sign up - it's completely free and being a web app you can access it from any computer, anywhere.
And as always - should you notice any issues or have some comments/suggestions - please contacts us right away.
Metric support has been added to brewers-assistant today. Here's the list of this week's updates:
Metric System Support: If you're already signed up and wish to use metric, you can now set it on your account page. Note that you will need to update your brewhouse profile to liter/kg values manually, but after that you should be good to go. If you're a new user just check "Use Metric System" on the create account page. "Add Mash Step" restyling: Restyled "Add Mash Step" page so it's more obvious what fields can be changed (prior to this, disabled textboxes looked almost identical to the ones that were editable). Brewday Boil Events counter: The brewday page now has a counter showing when the next hop addition is supposed to happen. You need to make sure your time zone is correct, of course (Account Page). Also - it will look a bit off in Internet Explorer, that will be fixed soon. Ingredients Added: A number of additional grains and extracts were added.
