Howdy! I'm new to the group and thought I'd throw up some photos of my new kegerator. It is a fairly old Binggrae milk refrigerator, of the variety that can be found at any old school mart. It was purchased for 170,000 delivered after talking the lady down from 200,000. The top of the fridge didn't reveal any coolant lines after a corn starch test (the cooling is taken care of by a half moon shaped coil inside sheet metal on the inside of the fridge that arcs upwards towards the top), so installing the double tap was a simple matter of finding the middle of the top, drilling the hole, sticking the tap on top, and slapping in the screws. It works extremely well and can fit four, five gallon kegs and a small bottle of CO2. The bonus is that the light above the glass doors still works, so my friends and I can get together for a semi-authentic "mart night." Cheers!

I am interested in buying an assortment of hops, grains, and yeasts and to get going on the all grain adventure. I have looked into Northern brewer and i am considering them as they have all the ingredients i want.(stuff to make my teeth fall out from the hoppy-ness via the imperial/double ipas I a plan to brew) Also what are the custom restrictions on these things. As well what is best to get here via goodbeer and beerschool and what is best to import from the states. I was thinking about getting my hops, yeasts, irish moss from Northern Brewer and my grains from goodbeer. So guess i am looking for some to point me in the right direction.
Also equipment such as a brew kettle a mash tun and a kegerator. I have a connection already for as many kegs as i need and CO2.

I just got a lead on an organic apple farmer in Jeollanamdo yesterday. In negotiations at the moment to buy some smaller-sized but juicy apples. Fallen apples from the typhoon have pretty much rotted, so no luck that way (crap timing, but a lead nonetheless).

Also, he juices in October. That might also be an option.

His biggest problem is manpower. The fallen apples were left in the orchard for lack of someone to pick them up. Likewise, he waits until October to juice due to lack of people around to work.

So, of course, I'm thinking, brewers want apples/juice. Brewers are manpower. Let's make this happen. That's where the negotiations are at the moment. There will be a box of apples sent to the negotiating friend tomorrow we will evaluate for size and determine a price.

If you're interested in going in on a bulk buy of fruit or apples, I need to know ASAP so we can work on negotiating. I need to know how many kilos of apples you might want to buy or if we go juice (if we can; I'm not sure yet), how many 20/25L units you might want (assuming we can get that much).

I also need to know if you're willing to travel to Jeollanamdo to a) do work and b) bring a sanitized container to carry juice back to your brewing site.

If anyone has organized a group buy of this nature before and knows what I'm leaving out, please let me know.

Cheers

Kim

Hey everyone, I've been brewing for about a year now but am worried that I've developed some bad habits. I'd love it if some of you out there could chime in on your cleaning and sanitizing methods.

Thanks so much.

I usually clean and scrub with liquid baby dish soap/hot water, and sanitize using the 1.25ml iodine/1L water solution. I never have time for items to drip dry fully (toddler in the house), but according to How to Brew (Palmer), this isn't an issue.

Finding CO2 equipment and CO2 refill stations has been the most frustrating part of my brewing experience since I've started this craft this time last year. Me and my guru, ghohn, has spent lot of time and effort finding sources for our kegerating needs! I hope the following information will help some of you guys out there looking to get away from bottling.

Here is a link to a korean company that sells coke kegs, co2 tanks and regulators; if you don't speak korean, you'll have to get a friend to call for you. the prices are very reasonable.

Daesan Corporation: http://www.fda.co.kr/new_daesan/new_daesan.htm

CO2 refill shop in Deajeon:

중 앙 산 업가스, http://goo.gl/maps/rVKhE - this place will refill your tank while you wait for 5,000 won.

CO2 refill shops in Seoul:

대원산소, http://tinyurl.com/cexlne9 - info on this shop was posted previously in this forum, but I'll put it up again; great location - only problem is, they will only refill tanks with the standard korean nozzles. they would not refill my tank which i purchased from the daesan corporation.

신양산소공업, http://tinyurl.com/clp9sxu - i just got my tank refilled here for 5,000won. it's right by jungmi station exit 1. dropped off my tank on saturday and was able to pick it back up on monday. make sure your tank doesn't have the big, black plastic ring around the neck; they can't refill tanks that have those attached. however, they were nice enough to remove mine and put it back on afterwards; i think this is why it took a couple of days though.

가스뱅크, http://tinyurl.com/a6exzjq - this place MAY refill our tanks; it would be nice if someone who lives out in that area could confirm. (It's location A on the map).

Cheers!

Hoang

Not that there's anything wrong with Weyermann grains or with Kim's noble efforts to distribute them, but my simple mind just can't get around the idea that proper malt can be shipped 'affordably' from Germany but not the US. What happened to the FTA?! And if not the US, why not the UK, Belgium, France, Australia, China, S.America? I can personally vouch for the quality - if not the quantity - of Chilean craft brews, for example, so there must be stuff on the market.

That said, I'm only complaining because I'm a snob for English styles and I previously always used Maris Otter as a base. Maybe MO is not something that can be grown successfully outside of the UK? Another thing my simple brain won't quite accept yet...

Maybe Rob would have something to add here... Rob? If you're reading, when you sold grain through the HBK store did you only ever go through the Weyermann distributor in SK that Kim uses? Did you ever look into other brands/suppliers? Any info on customs/shipping charges etc.?
